The site has two kinds of pages: articles written by hand, and reference tables built from game data. They are made and checked differently, so this page explains both.
Where the data comes from
- Pokédex, type pages, and tools: stats, types, abilities, moves, learnsets, and Pokédex entries come from PokeAPI, the open Pokémon database. Which Pokémon each game can obtain, including version exclusives and regional Pokédex order, is maintained by the site.
- Walkthroughs: for Red/Blue through Black 2/White 2, the wild encounter, trainer, and item tables come from the games' own data, mostly through the pret projects, which reconstruct each game's original code and data files. Black/White and Black 2/White 2 also use PokeAPI and named reference pages. The route order, strategy notes, and boss advice are written for the guide. The Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire, and X/Y walkthroughs are written guides that do not use a game-data source.
- VGC tournament pages: standings and team lists from PokéData and Victory Road event reports, cross-checked against the published team sheets when each event is added.
- Guides and rankings: articles written for the site. Rules, tournament details, and outside references are linked inside each article.
Every provider and repository is listed on the Sources page.
How data becomes a page
Scripts download the source data and convert it into the site's own data files. The site is then rebuilt from those files, so a page never depends on another website being up when you visit it. For the Diamond/Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black/White, and Black 2/White 2 walkthroughs, validation scripts also compare each page's encounter, trainer, and item counts with the source data before it is published.
Human review
Articles are written and edited one at a time. Data-built tables are checked at the source and at the template, with spot checks of the finished pages, rather than row by row. That is why reader corrections matter, and why each fix is made in the underlying data so every page that uses it is corrected together.
Reporting an error
Email info@gachaking.gg with the page URL, the game and version, the value on the page, the value you expected, and a source if you have one. Reports are checked against the page's source before a correction is published. The contact page has more detail.
Known limits
Data files are snapshots and can lag behind a source update, and sources sometimes disagree or leave a field out. When the evidence is incomplete, the site leaves the value out or labels the gap rather than presenting a guess as fact.
